Medical Director Oversight Moves to the Front of the Line

Three state boards issue fresh guidance on medical directors and delegation

Georgia's Medical Board (May 7, 2026), Oklahoma's Board of Nursing (March 24, 2026) and New Mexico's Medical Board have each issued new guidance this year on three issues: medical director "matchmaker" arrangements, standing orders and the limits of delegation. Holland & Knight's August 5 alert notes that the same problems keep surfacing in state and federal actions, including weak medical oversight, unlicensed practice of medicine, counterfeit or improperly compounded products, deceptive marketing and documentation gaps.

Indiana's rules are taking shape ahead of January registration

A follow-up to last week's registration date: Indiana's Medical Board and Board of Pharmacy are still finalizing the rules for SB 282. AmSpa founder Alex Thiersch has pointed to October 2026 for that process but cautioned that the timeline could slip. Under the law, practices that aren't physician-owned and offer injectables, energy devices, IV, hormone or peptide services need a publicly listed responsible practitioner. Good faith exams are limited to physicians (MD or DO), nurse practitioners and physician assistants, so RNs can't perform them.

A Neurotoxin Brand Goes Straight to Consumers

Julianne Hough becomes DAXXIFY's first celebrity brand partner

Revance announced the partnership on June 23, 2026. It's DAXXIFY's first major celebrity-fronted consumer campaign: Hough will create content for her own channels and for DAXXIFY's platforms, backed by paid media. The goal is to move the neuromodulator beyond physician-driven marketing and into direct-to-consumer awareness, so some patients may start asking for it by name.

Takeaways

What This Means for Your Practice

Make medical director oversight visible

Med spa laws and board guidance now reach Indiana, Texas, Rhode Island, Georgia, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Document how your medical director is actually involved, from chart reviews to standing orders, so it's more than a name on the wall.

Reconcile your records

With FDA's recent warning letters in mind, check that Botox purchase records match the doses you've administered, and keep paperwork showing any compounded GLP-1 or peptide comes from an FDA-registered source.

Put your team on camera

Swap generic graphics for posts that show patients who they'll meet. A Starter Pack post for each role is an easy place to start this month.

Prep your front desk for brand questions

As DAXXIFY goes direct to consumer, make sure your front desk and injectors can explain which neuromodulators you offer and how they differ.

This brief is for general information and isn't legal or regulatory advice. Laws and agency guidance change, so talk to a healthcare attorney about your specific situation.
